Poetry vs. Personal Essays
As a lover of both poetry and personal essays, I find it difficult to choose between the two. Both forms of writing can be powerful and impactful in their own way, and both have their place in the literary world.
However, as I’ve spent more time on Medium and explored different topics and writers, I have noticed that personal essays tend to do better on the platform in terms of engagement and readership. This is likely due to the fact that personal essays often explore relatable experiences and emotions, which can resonate deeply with readers and spark discussion.
That being said, I still have a deep love and appreciation for poetry. There is something special about the way that poetry can distill complex emotions and ideas into a few well-chosen words. Poetry has the power to move us, to inspire us, and to challenge our perspectives.
I remember reading a poem on Medium recently that explored the concept of productivity in a unique and thought-provoking way. While it may not have garnered as much attention as a personal essay on the same topic, the poem stuck with me in a way that few articles or essays ever could.

- Listicles: Articles that provide a list of tips, advice, or resources on a specific topic can be easy to read and share. Listicles often rank high in SERPs and can be a great way to attract new readers.
- Creative writing: Articles that showcase creativity and imagination can be very engaging and unique. This can include poetry, short stories, or even personal essays that are written in a creative and unique way.
- Inspirational/motivational writing: Articles that offer inspiration and motivation to readers can be very uplifting and encouraging. These types of articles can provide practical tips and advice on how to achieve success, happiness, or personal growth.
