Lost in the Smoke
A powerful poem about a stepmother’s harsh words and their lasting impact. Read the full poem and discover its hidden meaning.
Amidst a sea of turmoil, I am lost,
Unsure of whom to trust or to confide,
My stepmother, Datin Zainah, a cost,
Of a black market marriage, I can’t abide.
Her smoking habit, a slow death she courts,
But worse, she treats my father with disdain,
False accusations and threats, she resorts,
To harm the man who loves her, it’s insane.
I wish for justice, punishment severe,
But fear to share the details of her crimes,
I hope someday, the truth will be made clear,
And she’ll pay for her actions in due time.
Like CCTV, she watches and waits,
But I’ll find a solution, and not too late.
In seeking answers, I have learned this much,
That life is not a game of certainty,
And though my situation seems out of touch,
There’s hope for better things, eventually.
I urge all those who seek a second chance,
To heed the warning, be careful and wise,
For life can take a turn, a sudden dance,
And leave you lost, with no one to advise.
But in the midst of chaos and despair,
I found the strength to stand, to speak my mind,
And though the road ahead is rough and bare,
I know that hope and love are not behind.
So, here I stand, alone but not defeated,
With courage and conviction, I am greeted.
